Tanzania Wildlife Encounters
Tanzania is one of Africa’s top safari destinations. The wildlife viewing is out of this world and big cats are especially easy to see. All members of the Big Five can be found in various Tanzanian parks and reserves, and all five are present in the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park. Almost 40% of the country is protected and set aside for conservation, which means that it is easy to go on a Tanzania safari for two full weeks and drive from park to park while rarely leaving the bush.
The region is blessed with three safari circuits. The popular one is the Northern circuit with the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater which offer one of the best classical safaris in Africa, especially if timed with the annual wildebeest migration.
When to Visit Tanzania
Tanzania can be visited all year round. However, depending on what you want to experience:
From June to October, visiting Tanzania in the dry season will offer the best wildlife viewing opportunities. The skies are clear, and animals gather around waterholes, making it easier to see them. It is also the best time to witness the Great Migration in Serengeti National Park.
From January to February, the wildebeest is calving in the Serengeti National Park. It is also the best time to visit the southern and western circuit national parks.
From October to February, Tanzania is best for bird watching and enjoying the beautiful landscapes and wildlife without the peak-season hustle because the weather is still mostly dry.
From March to May, the rains are around making the trails and roads muddy. However, the rates for some trips are lower.
