Mount Kilimanjaro is among the popular destinations in Tanzania where hiking is done to the summit of the mountain which is the Uhuru peak at an altitude of 5895 meters. The mountain is the highest in Africa and it is also a snow-capped, free-standing mountain.
Different routes are used for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and they include Marangu route, Machame route, Umbwe route, Rongai route, Shira route, and Lemosho route. Hiking to the summit of the mountain takes about 5 to 9 days depending on the hiking route used.
Apart from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, tourists can also enjoy cultural experiences and interact with locals such as the Chagga people who live on the foothills of the mountain.
