Semuliki National Park is referred to as “the true birders haven” because of its richness in avian species with more than 441 species, representing 40% of Uganda’s total bird species and (216) which is 66% of the country’s forest bird species. The park is home to 53 mammal species, 27 of which are large mammals; 11 of them are endemic to the park including the pygmy antelope and two flying squirrel species. Semuliki National Park provides a taste of Central Africa. It is home to hot springs (Sempaya hot springs and Nyasimbi) whose steam can be seen as far as 2km away and steaming waters the locals use to boil food.
The park also hosts chimpanzees, baboon back-and-white colobus, Central African red colobus, Potto,Bush baby, buffalo, forest elephants, among others.
Birding is the primary activity done in Semuliki National Park. However, visitors can also indulge in Hiking/nature walks, Game drives and Chimpanzee tracking/ habituation experience.
